Yankee Swap and Chinese Auction are variations of gift exchanges where participants don't know who is giving what.
One variation is to have the gifts (let say 10) numbered 1 through 10, and then to draw numbers, and the number you get is the gift you get.
Another variation goes like this... The participants place all the gifts in one spot.
1) The first person chooses which gift they would like, open it so that all have a chance to see what it is.
2) The second participant then has the option of taking a gift from those remaining, or taking the first gift away from the first person.
3) The third person then gets their choice of a gift from the remaining, or seperating either participant 1 or 2 from their gift.
This option should only be done with good friends who have a good sense of humor, and works best when you have all decided on gag gifts.
A final variation is to just have everyone bring a gift (usually valued around $10 US) to the party, putting them all together, and then everybody just choosing whichever gift they wish.
