As a management professional, even though I am not employed in HR, I am completely responsible for HR activities. In this day and age, most supervisors and management professionals now have this responsibility.
The first part of the potentiality of the hiring process is, of course, reviewing a prospective employee's resume.
The keys on a resume I look for are:
1) Proper grammar
2) Is it clear and concise?
3) Is it filled with lies?
4) Is there a cover letter?
Number 3 is a big one. You cannot believe the number of applicants who lie about work experiences and other things on their resume. Sure, they've gotten jobs as a result of their prevaricating. However, at some point, the odds are that their lies will catch up with them.
Number 4 is also big. You need a cover letter with a resume. A cover letter is necessary for bullet points.
Below is a specification sheet I encourage people without a resume to use. It is a useful tool that can aid in collecting the information you need before embarking on the event of writing a resume.
I have also included one of the better resumes I've ever written.
