Category: Animals & Pets : Dogs Whenever people think about getting a dog, they usually want a cute, fuzzy puppy. However, this isn't always the best idea. Plenty of adult dogs need homes, and they are often a better choice for many people. Advantages of an Adult Dog - You already know how big it will be - You already know how much hair it will have and what its grooming requirements will be - You already know how active it is and how much exercise it will need - It may have received some training - It will probably be housebroken - It should be past the chewing stage - It can be left alone for longer periods of time People often fear that a dog is being "gotten rid of" because of some problem. However, many dogs lose their home because of no fault of their own, such as owners who move or divorce. Puppies are lots of work. They are cute, but they demand time. In order to housebreak them properly, they shouldn't be left alone more than 4 hours. They need constant supervision. If you aren't up to this, an adult dog may be a better choice for you.
