Children now a days are all too often neglected, wrongly rewarded, and punished for the wrong reasons. Many parents have the attitude that with or without their input their children will grow up, will at some time move out of the house, and will get some kind of job or earn some kind of a living and that seems to be good enough for them. They believe that if the child fails in school or life that it's not their fault. After all... they put food on the table, washed their clothes, gave them spending money and told them they had better not skip school and make them have to miss work to take care of it.

HELLO. There is more to bringing up a child then that. You MUST start at a very young age. Let the child know what is expected of them. The fewer gray areas the better. The parent MUST be consistent and don't say it if you can't carry through on it. A child learns by seeing what the parent does. If you don't want them to do it, don't you do it. It doesn't work to tell them do as I say not as I do. Do!

Don't be too lazy to get off your rump to correct your child after being told just once. There is nothing as irritating as a parent yelling at their child over and over again with threats of getting up. The child knows how long before you are going to get up off that lazy rump of yours. Please, it takes an effort to raise a child. You will find that if you say what you mean and mean what you say, and follow through, and always do it in love because you want the child to grow up to be a productive member of society that by the time your child starts school he/she will be well on their way. But don't stop then - it's not up to the school to raise your child. At this point however, if you keep involved there should be very little need for disciplining or spankings.

I do believe, by the way, that on a few rare occasions children do need a spanking on the fatty part of their bottom only given by the parent to get the child's attention.
