2 and 1/2 cups of self-rising flour
2/3 cup shortening
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 and 1/2 cups milk
Directions
Preheat oven at 350 degrees.
Put the flour in a bowl, reserving 1/2 cup for later use.
Mix in the shortening by cutting it in with two table knives until the lumps are very small.
Out in the baking powder, salt and milk. (Depending on the altitude and the flour you use, you may need a little more or less liquid.) Consistency should be thicker than pancake mix.
Flour your hands and mix with your hands until dough is easily workable. It should come away from the sides of the bowl.
Roll out on a floured surface and cut with a floured cutter or glass.
Place cut biscuits into a lightly buttered pan 1/2 inches apart.
Place biscuits in preheated oven for 30-45 minutes or until brown.
