Lyme Disease is carried and transmitted by infected ticks. Namely the deer tick.

The first step you should take is to VACCINATE your pet with a Lyme vaccine available at most vet clinics.

At this point, only dogs have this opportunity. Start the vaccine series EARLY. Twelve weeks is the earliest. It's a series of two injections, 3 to 4 weeks apart.

Next, use PREVENTATIVES.

I've found that a product called PREVENTIC works like a miracle. It's a collar, and while a lot of you may frown on using a collar, this product may be the exception.

It works by first killing and DETACHING ticks already on your pet.

Secondly, and most importantly, it absolutely PREVENTS any more ticks from even biting by immediately numbing or paralyzing the mouthparts of the parasite.

This collar is waterproof, but should be removed for bathing. Also, while you can use Preventic in conjunction with, say, Frontline Topspot or Advantage (for fleas), it MUST be removed FIRST before applying those products!!! !

I recommend Advantage, too, folks, for fleas. It kicks butt. You can use poisons for your lawn for the infestation of parasites, too, but pay attention to any warnings for hazards to humans and/or domesticated animals.

Program and Sentinel do not protect your pet from potential infection from ticks because these products must be ingested by the parasite in order for them to work. This means that your pet isn't really protected at all. Ask your vet. READ the labels on the products I've mentioned. Compare them.

Good luck!
