Category: Animals & Pets : Dogs I have five Scottish Terriers that I used to breed, and am anticipating breeding again this year. I also have a rescued dog, and two cats. I love my vet, but when one of my male terriers developed a skin cyst, he removed it, charged me $130, and told me it was hormonal, and he would probably develop another one unless I got him neutered. I didn't want to, as I plan to breed him next year. Well, sure enough, he developed another cyst, which started to grow larger. A friend of mine, a groomer, said she had seen these cysts quite often, and that if I soaked the cyst in hydrogen peroxide every day for a couple of weeks, the cyst would eventually shrink and go away. I did, but it didn't look as though anything was happening. The vet's advice? Remove the cyst (at an increased price of $175) and neuter the dog. Well, the story goes on to have a fairly happy ending. The cyst has miraculously almost totally disappeared, I didn't pay $175 nor did I have my dog neutered (the vet's answer to everything), and hopefully next year he'll be a daddy of a litter of happy little puppies. Sometimes we should perhaps follow the advice of others.... About the author...
