Welcome! If you are reading this article, then you really do care for your hair! I have done a lot of things to my hair, and I didn't realise that all this time I was actually damaging it.
I finally decided to cut (the damaged hair) all off, and start fresh. So here are the steps (that apply to ALL hair types) to prevent your hair from damage:
1. Don't tie your hair too tight. Not only does it encourage baldness from the front sides of the face, but it also weakens your hair and encourages split-ends.
2. Never brush your hair unless it's a super-soft brush because some types of brushes can strip the hair of it's protective coating, thus leading to damage. And when you comb your hair make sure that its a wide-toothed comb because those tight tiny toothed ones can actually pull your hair out really well.
3. No matter what, never braid your hair! Especially tight braids because they simply cause your hair to be frizzy and weak.
4. Never use too much shampoo. Some people think that washing your hair 2 or 3 times will get the hair really clean, but the truth is washing it just once is enough. Just remember to scrub well (without using your nails), and your hair will be clean enough. Shampooing your hair too much will only strip your hair of it's moisture . I strongly recommend Johnson's Baby Shampoo simply because it has no "ammonium laurel sulphate" - chemicals that creates suds but dries up your hair leaving no moisture at all. If you use a lot of greasy styling products, then add just a tiny bit of shampoo, but remember to scrub the scalp more, WITHOUT NAILS!
5. Be very careful with hair when it's wet. Because its terribly weak at this point, you must remember to be gentle with your hair. And, never tie your hair while it's wet, even if you're in a hurry to go somewhere. And when you dry it, NEVER RUB your hair. Just simply pat your hair well with a good towel- rubbing your hair while it's wet is just like asking for trouble.
7. Do not make any attempt at colouring your hair yourself!! Some people say colouring is damaging to your hair, but that is only true if you do it yourself! Always go to a really good (and expensive) salon because you are going to be doing something MAJOR to your hair. So money should be not no object. Besides, some special colours actually help add moisture to your hair-just ask your hairdresser about them.
8. Try to avoid blow drying, even if you apply special conditioners or heat-protection products-it just isn't worth it applying hot air to your hair. Some people start blow-drying their hair, and in the long-run it changes the texture of the hair, which can be rather alarming.
9. And finally, the most important thing is....LOVE CONQUERS ALL. Its taken me some time , but you should learn to love your hair and appreciate its beauty and how GOD intended it to be. What am I talking about? I'm talking about straightening and perms. Try to avoid these two, because they are real hair killers. Nobody really has bad hair, it's just due to laziness that we sometimes give up trying.
I hope you remember to follow these tips! And again, these are meant for all hair types. Take care of your hair, and GOOD LUCK!
