One very reliable way to fix the glass, would be to use a stained glass technique.
Using copper foil, burnishing it to each broken edge, join the pieces by running a bead of solder on each break.
Burnishing means to rub the surface with a smoothe tool (usually a metal or solid plastic stick or wand), this process seals the copper foil to the glass thus eliminating any gaps between the two surfaces. (Copper foil is a strip of copper with tacky glue on one side, it can be purchased in a variety of widths i.e. 3/8",1/2" etc)
When this step is completed, the glass pieces are placed together, brush some flux on the join and then solder. The solder used is solid core (not the type that is flux and solder combined). Once the piece is cool, it can be cleaned by rubbing the area with plaster of paris (it absorbs the flux for easier removal) and then wash with soap and water.
This will hold the two pieces together quite well. (I haven't found any glue that is 'super effective' for mending glass!)
